Cyprus prepared some new rules for its students and their cellphones. Any student found carrying a mobile phone would be reprimanded, while those found with a powered on cell phone could be suspended. Taking it one step further, any student found using the handset for photos or video recording could face expulsion.

These rules came after some rumours saying that "pupils were sending text messages to each other during exams and lessons, and that video footage and photographs were being taken and posted on the Internet," said Dr Zena Poulli, director of secondary education at the Cypriot education and culture ministry.
