SanDisk Sansa Express The Sansa Express is a USB format MP3 player supporting, among other things, WMA, WAV and MP3 format. The SanDisk Sansa Express is packed in a small box holding Sansa earplugs, a software CD with user guides in more than 30 languages, an MP3 lanyard to carry the Express around your neck, a booklet for free Audiobook download, stickers, a short USB cable and of course the Sansa Express MP3 player itself. Before being able to enjoy everything the Sansa Express has to offer, it has to be turned on through the on/off button on top of the MP3 player. Next to the on/off button a slide is positioned to lock the buttons or in other words: to put them on hold. The navigation buttons on the front of the Sansa Express USB format MP3 player will illuminate with a blue light when the player is activated. They will remain blue for approximately 10 seconds when the buttons are used. These buttons let you operate every function on the MP3 player except for the volume. The volume buttons, two of them, are positioned at the bottom edge of the MP3 player. They serve to turn the volume louder or less loud. The microSD card slot, the built-in microphone and the connection for the headset are found on the side of the SanDisk Sansa Express.

The SanDisk Express MP3 player's sound is of acceptable quality. Using the Equalizer lets you fine-tune the sound to your personal preference which may change the acceptable quality to good quality. The volume range can be adjusted through the menu; high and normal modes are available. The delivered Sansa earplugs are, just as the ones delivered with other Sansa MP3 players, of fine quality and they do have a perfect ear-fit. Additionally the Sansa Express MP3 player is capable of more than just playing music, it also lets you listen to the FM radio and record the songs. It also offers voice recording through the built-in microphone. The voice recording function offers extremely clear recordings.

The menu of the SanDisk Sansa Express is well-structured. Even without going through the user guide the MP3 player can easily be understood and operated. The menu is divided into four categories: Music, Radio, Voice and Settings. The 'Settings' menu offers more than 20 different languages to choose from. Furthermore various settings can be adjusted through this menu such as brightness of the monitor, the equalizer, sleep mode, FM settings, volume, format, additional system information and a reset function. The 'Voice' menu lets you record sounds by means of the built-in microphone. The 'Radio' menu offers access to the radio. The SanDisk Sansa Express features an auto-scan to detect radio stations, but it also offers a manual mode. No less than 20 preset stations can be set through the sub menu button, or removed again using the same menu. When you are listening to a song on the radio, you can record it through the SanDisk Express, and consequently play it as often as you like. The 'Music' menu gives you the choice to play the songs in sequence or to play a song by genre, album or artist. All radio andSanDisk Sansa Express voice recordings can be listened to via the 'Music' menu as well.

SanDisk Sansa Express OLED Monitor

The four-line bright OLED screen of the SanDisk Sansa Express MP3 player is displaying two colours; orange for the battery indicator and green for all the other items. The operating system on the SanDisk Express MP3 player has been developed by SanDisk itself. In case a firmware update comes available, it can simply be upgraded on the SanDisk web site. It is a pity that the Sansa Express OLED monitor does not offer photo support, but looking at the price it is understandable. Some animated icons appear in the main menus and they also appear when turning the Sansa Express MP3 player on or off.

The SanDisk Sansa Express is an ultra-convenient device and the manual does not have to be read in most cases. Managing music is easy once the Sansa Express is connected to the computer through the USB connection. The fast USB 2.0 interface lets you transfer and manage your music swiftly and fast.

SanDisk Express Memory

The SanDisk Sansa Express has an internal memory of 1GB, which will hold 250 MP3 songs and can be expanded with a microSD memory card. The Sansa Express is also available as a 2GB version. The SanDisk Sansa MP3 player can be recharged by connecting it through its USB connection to a computer. The USB connection is nicely hidden behind a neatly fitted cover that is well-attached to the Sansa Express. You will not lose it easily. And let's be fair.... other MP3 player manufacturers can learn from SanDisk on this field and improve their covers. According to SanDisk the lithium-polymer battery will last a maximum of 15 hours and that is my exact experience when testing the battery's stamina.
